Privileges for Medical Center & Graduate Students


  • 2 Months at Medical Library
  • 6 months at Bass, Divinity, Music, Sterling Memorial Libraries and Center for Science and Social Science Information  (CSSSI)
  • 1 day at Arts Library.

Books may be paged from the general collection to the circulation desk for patron pick-up.

All circulating library materials may be recalled by another reader.

How many books can I borrow?


Is there a late fee?

The following overdue fees apply:

  1. Modern and historical collections: $0.50 per day per item past due date ($15.00 maximum)
  2. Course reserves: $0.05 per minute per item returned late ($25.00 maximum

The Medical Library appreciates the timely return of books.

Payment is accepted via check, cash or charge at the Circulation Desk.

Remote Access to Resources

Yale VPN

VPN (Virtual Private Networking) provides a secure method of accessing Web-based Library resources. VPN uses university NetID authentication, and is therefore NOT an option for hospital employees without a university NetID.

Interlibrary Loan

  • Borrow Direct
    Use Borrow Direct to borrow books from the libraries of Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Penn, and Princeton. Most books are available for pick up at designated Yale libraries within 4 business days.
  • Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
    Use Interlibrary Loan (ILL)to obtain books, articles, and other research materials from a large network of suppliers. Books are often available for pick up at designated Yale libraries within 2 weeks. Copies of articles can be delivered to you electronically and are often available in a few days.
