Introducing First Wednesdays at the Medical Historical Library

Time: 4:00–5:00 pm

Location: 333 Cedar Street / Sterling Hall of Medicine. Medical Historical Library (MHL).

*Events will take place in the Historical Library unless otherwise noted

The Medical Historical Library welcomes Yale students, faculty, and staff to our new “First Wednesdays” series: a monthly event named for the day it occurs— on the first Wednesday of the month during the academic year. Launched in October 2025, “First Wednesdays” at MHL offers visitors special access to curated highlights from our exceptional collections. The inaugural program, held in conjunction with the opening of our Fall exhibition, “Anatomy of a Collector: Gertrude van Wagenen (1893–1978),” featured oversized and rarely seen works assembled by Dr. Van Wagenen. In November, our second event explored surprising contributions to the histories of science and medicine, showcasing early modern engagement with portents, prodigies, and prognostication. Most recently, the December “First Wednesday” featured a pop-up exhibit of medical instruments curated by Dr. Deborah Streahle’s class “Technology and American Medicine” (HSHM4280).

After a brief winter pause, First Wednesdays will begin again spring 2026. Please save the following dates:

  • February 4th (*Alternate location: Beaumont Room in the Sterling Hall of Medicine)
  • March 4th
  • April 1st
  • May 6th

No RSVP needed to attend. Topics will be announced prior to each session. Please write to historical.library@yale.edu with any questions.
