The Medical Historical Library Office and Reading Room is open to the public Monday-Friday from 10 a.m.-12 noon and 1 p.m.-4:30 p.m. We are also open 8:30 a.m.-10 a.m. and 4 p.m.-5 p.m. by appointment as staffing permits. The Medical Historical Library is closed on Saturday and Sunday as well as holidays when the University is closed.
We are looking forward to your visit. Please refer to our page on Requesting materials for information on how to order materials prior to your visit. If possible, place requests at least 2 days before coming to use materials at the Historical Library, to give staff the time to pull collections. For any questions, contact the Historical Library at firstname.lastname@example.org or 203-737-1192.
The Medical Historical Library is open to all Yale University students, faculty and staff along with researchers whose work requires the use of the collections. Registration is necessary to use the special collections. Please register online prior to your visit. If you plan to visit us, you will need to present a valid, government-issued photo ID when you arrive to complete the registration process, which includes getting a photograph taken, to gain access to our reading room. For further details, please consult the Yale University Library Special Collections Guide.
All Medical Historical Library policies and procedures, such as presenting a photo ID, help to ensure the safety and preservation of the materials. The Reading Room is monitored by video camera as well as staff members. In addition to the use of notebooks and pencils or laptops, the Medical Historical Library permits readers to photograph materials, without use of flash or tripod.
