Find It Fast!

A series of video tutorials on the various evidence-based practice (EBP) information resources. The series is called "Find It Fast" because all of these resources may help you find clinical information faster. The first three episodes will explain some basic terminologies and theories used in this series of tutorials. Then the following EBP resources will be demoed: the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, ACP's PIER, Clinical Evidence, ACP Journal Club, the "Evidence-based ..." series of journals, Clinical Queries in MEDLINE and the EBP meta-search engine TRIP.
- Find It Fast #1: Introduction
This is the first episode of the evidence-based practice information resources video tutorial series. The basic steps for finding clinical information, especially how to construct a focused, answerable clinical question, are reviewed.
Available » Video - Find It Fast #2: The Clinical Question
Your choice of clinical information resource is closely related to the nature of the clinical question you ask. This tutorial covers various types of clinical questions and how they are associated with different types of research studies.
Available » Video - Find It Fast #3: The Pyramid of Resources
Clinical information resources are usually classified by the extent to which they are critically appraised. We often use a pyramid diagram to distinguish two different tiers of resources. This tutorial explains the differences of the two tiers and shows how various Yale clinical resources fit into the pyramid model.
Available » Video - Find It Fast #4: The Cochrane Library
This tutorial demonstrates the basics of searching and browsing the Cochrane Library for systematic reviews.
Available » Video - Find It Fast #5: Clinical Evidence
This tutorial demonstrates the basics of using Clinical Evidence, an EBP resource created by the BMJ.
Available » Video - Find It Fast #6: ACP's PIER
This tutorial demonstrates the basics of using ACP's PIER, Physician's Information and Education Resource from the American College of Physicians.
Available » Video - Find It Fast #7: Critically Appraised Individual Articles
This tutorial demonstrates the basics in finding "critically appraised individual articles" using resources such as the ACP Journal Club and the "Evidence-based..." series of journals.
Available » Video - Find It Fast #8: Clinical Queries in MEDLINE
Although most articles indexed in MEDLINE are original research studies, it DOES index some critically appraised content, such as the Cochrane reviews, ACP Journal Club articles, etc. This tutorial will first demonstrate how to quickly find the critically appraised content using PubMed. When you do have to search in MEDLINE for original research studies, filters are available to help you find the best types of studies for your clinical question. This tutorial also demonstrates how to use the various clinical query filters both in PubMed and in Ovid SP MEDLINE.
Available » Video - Find It Fast #9: The TRIP Database
This tutorial demonstrates the basic features of the TRIP Database, a meta-search engine for clinical information at both the top and bottom tiers of the pyramid of resources.
Available » Video - Find It Fast #10: Wrap-up
The primary goal of this series of tutorials is "find it fast". This episode concludes this series and is a recap of the key messages in these tutorials.
