A valid Yale or YNHH ID enables access to the Sterling Hall of Medicine.
Please check our Hours page for information on upcoming closures and recesses.
Members of the Public
Visitors without an active Yale or YNHH ID are welcome to visit the Medical Library to use the reading rooms and in-house collections (borrowing privileges may be purchased). Visitors must obtain a pass from the security desk located in the entrance of 333 Cedar Street.
Use of Special Collections
We are open to all researchers whose work requires the use of our special collections. Researchers must register in the Yale Library special collections system. You will need to present a valid, government-issued photo ID when you arrive to complete the registration process, which includes getting a photograph taken, to gain access to our reading room.
Please refer to our page on requesting materials for information on how to order materials prior to your visit. If possible, place requests at least 2 days prior to coming to use materials at the Historical Library, to give staff the time to pull collections.
Accessibility
The Medical Library is wheelchair-accessible via the Sterling Hall of Medicine entrance on 333 Cedar Street. There are ramps and a mechanized door for accessible entrance. Once inside the Medical Library, people in wheelchairs can access the E-level via the center corridor elevator.
When the Medical Library is open, the 24/7 room (located on the E-level) is wheelchair-accessible via the center corridor elevator. Please note the 24/7 room door is not mechanized. When the Medical Library is closed, the 24/7 room is no longer accessible for people in wheelchairs. Users must exit through the corridor which includes stairs.
Unfortunately, the elevator to the Cushing Center is not wheelchair-accessible.
Accessible Restrooms
A single stall, wheelchair-accessible restroom is located on the main floor just outside of the medical library entrance. The men’s and women’s restrooms on the E-level both have wheelchair-accessible stalls. Please note that the doors to these restrooms are not currently mechanized.
Service Animals
Service animals are allowed in all Yale libraries; this includes dogs and miniature horses only. Support animals such as birds and pigs are not allowed in libraries.
Accessibility at Other Yale libraries
