Yale School of Medicine Bicentennial Collection

School of Medicine Collection

In preparation for the Bicentennial of the Yale School of Medicine in 2010, we are digitizing photographs of Yale medical classes, deans, departmental chairs and other faculty, departmental photographs, and buildings and other facilities. We hope these images may be incorporated into historical lectures and Yale departmental histories.

This project is in its beginning stages. We are starting with photographs in the Historical Library collection. Thus far, most of the photographs of Yale medical classes have been digitized. We do not have every class, nor do we have names of graduates for some photographs. We are currently scanning photographs of faculty from our alphabetical photograph files. Next will be photographs from our building and departmental files. If you have a specific priority for scanning, please let us know. Eventually these photographs will be supplemented with selected more recent photographs from Yale Medicine and from the photograph archives at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

For each of the images, the Medical Library also has a large (tiff) image that may be used for print publications. While Yale owns copyright of some of these images, others may still be under copyright to the creators of their heirs. Please request if you wish to use the images for purposes other than presentations.
